“She’s never been to Chicago at night.”
Reflecting upon my time in the Chicagoland area, Chicago at night is such a great place. Nonetheless, whether it’s daylight or nighttime, I recommend the following:
- Go to the skydeck of the
WillisSears Tower.- See a show at Schuba’s.
- Beg for change at an El stop.
- Attend a concert at Millenium Park’s Jay Pritzker Pavilion.
- Go to Greektown at 3am.
- Eat a Chicago deep dish pizza.
- Attend Pitchfork Music Festival/Lollapalooza.
- Take photos at Navy Pier.
- Visit the Art Institute.
- Hunt mummies in the Field Museum.
- Poke fun of the octopi at the Shedd Aquarium.
- Look for robots at the Museum of Science and Industry.
- Feel utterly insignificant in comparison to the universe at the Adler Planetarium.
- See an improv show at Second City or IO.
- Attend a DJ set Danny’s, The Hideout, or Sonotheque.
- Get wasted and make fun of hipsters in Wicker Park.
- Manuever through Halsted during Pride Weekend.
- Go to Chicago Blues Fest in Grant Park.
- Walk, with a blunt object in hand, under Lower Wacker at night.
- Stroll through the “Sky’s The Limit” tunnel at O’Hare.
- Visit Northwestern’s campus and attend their Dillo Days.
- Catch a “Victory Auto Wreckers” commercial on TV.
- Take a boat ride along Lake Michigan.
- Attend Renegade Craft Fair along Division.
- Find parking in Wrigleyville.
- Take a shot of Jameson at L&L on Clark.
- Piss off the bartenders along the Gold Coast.
- Waste your money on Michigan Avenue.
- Avoid the cops along Lakeshore Drive.
- See Buckingham Fountain.
- Summon ghosts along the Dearborn Street Bridge.
- Visit the House of Blues and buy some voodoo veladora candles.
- See a concert at The Congress Theater.
- Eat a vegan meal at The Chicago Diner.
- Drink some Mickey’s on the El.
- Visit an art gallery in Pilsen or Bridgeport.
- Catch Flosstradamus perform.
- Smoke a cigarette, alone, on the beaches of Lake Michigan.
- Get a hamburger at the Billy Goat Tavern.
- Eat at the Golden Nugget.
- Watch the sun rise behind the Hancock Building.
- Visit the Museum of Contemporary Art and go, “Whaaa…?”
- Grab some nuts from Nuts on Clark.
- Use the photobooth at The Rainbo Club.
- Walk along Lincoln Square with a dog.
- Order some sweet potato fries at Clark’s on Clark.
- Take a photo of yourself at The Cloud Gate.
- Drive through the Rock N’ Roll McDonalds.
- Catch a Shakespearean play at Navy Pier (or Improv Shakespeare).
- Live in the area for 26 years.
I’ve done: 2, 5, 6, 8-14, 16, 17, 20, 22, 23, 25-29, 30, 33, 39, 45, 46, 49, 50 (next year). How about you?
